Christmas Cards, Tags, and Bags using Sketches, Part 1

Lots of people like using sketches when creating cards and scrapbook layouts. Sketches really help you get started creating without spending time deciding on the placement and design of things. So today, I'd like to share some Christmas cards, bags, and tags from a previous workshop that I team taught along with Jeri Parks and Linda Dotterer at My Creative Classroom.

Let's start off at the beginning with Sketch #1.

Merry Christmas Card

Title: “Merry Christmas” card
Basic Info:
·         Sketch #1
·         Card Base: 4.25” x 5.5”
·         Measurements: Top - 4”x 3.75”, Bottom- 4” x 2”

Supplies: Cardstock, paper, ribbon, felt flowers, border punch, die cut, ribbon, sewing machine, thread

Instructions:
1.      Cut patterned paper to size of Top and Bottom. Adhere to card front.
2.      Adhere 4.25” of printed ribbon and border punched paper.
3.      Stitch perimeter of card.
4.      Adhere 2-1/4” x 2-1/4” green scalloped square at left. 
5.      Adhere three felt flowers.

Happy Holidays Christmas Card

Title: “Happy Holidays” card
Basic Info:
·         Sketch #1
·         Card Base: 4.25” x 5.5”
·         Measurements: patterned paper- 4” x 5.25”

Supplies: Cardstock, paper, border sticker, sticker sentiment, die cut trees, foam squares, glitter glue, sewing machine, metallic thread

Instructions:
1.      Cut patterned paper to size. Adhere to card front.
2.      Adhere coordinating paper strip to left side of card (1” x 5.25”)
3.      Machine stitch perimeter of card front with metallic thread.
4.      Add two border stickers horizontally 1” up from sewn edge.
5.      Add sticker sentiment.

6.      Add die cut trees with foam squares and add dots of glitter glue.

Rejoice Christmas card

Title: “Rejoice” card
Basic Info:
·         Sketch #1
·         Card Base: 4.25” x 5.5”
·         Measurements: patterned paper – 4” x 5.25”

Supplies: Cardstock, paper, ink pad, clip art angel image, border punch, metallic and regular rick rack, die cut label, foam squares, sewing machine, thread

Instructions:
1.      Cut patterned paper to size, ink edges and adhere to card front.
2.      Print angel image (approx 3” x 4”) and adhere to card front.
3.      Cut paper scrap and adhere to left of image (0.5” x 4”).
4.      Stitch all papers.
5.      Punch paper, adhere to card.  Adhere rickrack to card.
6.      Attach die cut label with foam squares.

Happy Holidays gift tag

Title: “Happy Holidays” tag
Basic Info:
·         Sketch #1
·         Tag Base: 1.75” x 3”

Supplies: Cardstock, border punch, printed twill, lace trim, rhinestone, thin metallic cording
  
Instructions:
1.      Punch two papers with border punch and adhere to lower edge of tag.
2.      Adhere lace trim above punched pieces.
3.      Adhere printed twill above trim.  Allow to hang off left edge.
4.      Adhere rhinestone at left edge of twill.

Noel gift bag
Title: “Noel” gift bag
Basic Info:
·         Sketch #1
·         Bag Base: 8-1/4” x 10” (recycled)
·         Measurements: Top paper – 8” x 6.5”, Bottom paper- 8” x 3”

Supplies: Cardstock, patterned paper, ribbon, felt tree, border punch, paper hole punch, twine, metal label, sewing machine, thread

Instructions:
1.      Cut patterned paper to size of Top and Bottom paper. Adhere to bag.
2.      Add 8” red ribbon and 8” border punched paper.
3.      Cut 3” square green cardstock for focal point.  Border punch strips and adhere to back, mitering corners.
4.      Stitch edge of focal piece and adhere to left of bag. Add 2” white cardstock on diagonal.  Add felt tree, punched circles and piece for star.
5.      Replace bag handles with ribbon, punching holes in bag if necessary.
6.      Small matching tag:
·         Make little matching tag from 2” x 4” cardstock. Fold to 2” square.  Punch hole at top left. 
·         Add punched border at bottom, add 1-3/4” x 1-3/4” paper to front, add smaller felt tree.  Add metal NOEL label. Tie onto bag handle with twine.
