All About Adhesives - Adhesive Removers

We are rounding out our All About Adhesives series today. Once things get sticky, you’ll definitely need an adhesive remover and/or eraser.  I've starred (*) the ones I've personally used.

Xyron Adhesive Eraser* is cheap and portable. This gummy eraser cleans up many a dry adhesive residue. When your eraser gets gunky, just cut off the messy edge and get a clean portion! This works great!

Scotch Sticker and Marker Remover Pen - Use for removing adhesives, marker and crayon from walls, lockers, desks, glass, folders, photo-safe and easy-to-control.  It is ideal for crafts and scrapbooking.  It even lifts grime and grease from garage areas or work sites.

Un-Du Adhesive Remover* - This is one great remover! It instantly removes all self-sticking and pressure-sensitive stickers, labels, tapes and adhesives without staining or damaging surfaces. Acid-free, photo safe, archival and will not damage acid-or lignin-free paper making it ideal for scrapbooking.

Krylon Adhesive Remover Spray Fast-acting.  Removes sticker and tape residue, crayon, marker, grease, oil, wax, and paint overspray from metal, plastic, glass, non-porous surfaces, most paintable surfaces, and sealed ceramic.

Elmer’s Sticky Out* - Made with non-toxic, natural oils that safely remove tape, rubber cement, stickers, glues, model paint, labels, and crayons from virtually any surface. I found that I needed to let the solution soak in a bit for it to work well.

Goo Gone* is a quick and fast working solution to remove adhesive, chewing gum, grease, tar, stickers, tree sap, labels, tape residue, oil, blood, lipstick, mascara, shoe polish, crayon, wax and even bumper stickers. It leaves no residue behind and contains no harsh odors. Safe to use on carpets, upholstery, clothing, wood, vinyl, plastic, glass, stone, laminate, ceramic, painted surfaces and even cement.

Crafter’s Companion Stick AwayStick Away is a multi-purpose cleaner ideal for safely removing glue and varnish from most surfaces. Ideal for removing overspray during craft, hobby and DIY activities. Stick Away can be used in confined spaces and leaves a ‘clean smell’.

De-Solv-It * is 100% organic, environmentally friendly and biodegradable. It removes grease, gum, stickers, crayons, make-up, wet paint, bugs, soap scum, and candle wax.  Is there anything this can’t do?  This is one of my all-time favorites. I was able to take off a large sticker from a heavy plastic portable table that had been there for years…it came off easy as pie. Just spray, let sit just a bit, and wipe.  Use as a pre-spot for laundry!

CitraSolv* is a natural cleaner and degreaser concentrate.  Removes gum, ink, tar, grease, oil, lipstick, paint, permanent marker, and more. Clean your oil paint brushes in this! Another of my favorites.

Note: When using some of these removers, especially those that claim to remove paint, be careful with any painted surfaces like the decoration on your die cutting machine, label on your sewing machine, etc. They can take off paint! Also, do not use them on wood surfaces, like your dining room table, as they can take off the finish. Always test in an inconspicuous area to determine if it is safe to use on your item.
