Gearing Up for the Holidays!

Yes, I am still in pain, but I am bored of lying in bed! I have an appointment to see the Neurologist tomorrow. Hopefully to get some good meds!!!

There is a local Holiday Craft fair in early December that I will be vending at, and I have quite a few plans rolling around in my head! I have a great need to start creating stuff to sell. I started by making up a few of the remaining class kits I had on hand.
Here's the last "All About Me" Paper Bag Album

And I made up a few "Treasures of my Heart" CD Folder Mini Books

I will post some of the other things I make. It feels good to be out of bed and actually create! It is so good for the soul! :D

the pain...

I have debated about posting my real feelings. I decided to just do it.

I have been suffering with cluster headaches all of September and now into October. Went to the emergency three times and was finally admitted into the hospital for pain management and to get the needed tests, no thanks to the insurance company. All the tests are negative. Meaning there is no cancer or tumors. But yes, I have brain matter, believe it or not. But it really hurts right now. There's nothing really that can be done for cluster headaches, so I'm told.

I will actually get to see the Neurologist on Monday, thanks to a cancellation. Thank God! I am really wondering what I can do that is pro-active for this. What can I eat or NOT eat, what can I do or not do? Is there really nothing??? Must I really sit and suffer? It really stinks to have chronic pain and to have to lie in bed and rest.

My husband has been an absolute saint. He has taken me to the hospital when I was less than cordial, cooked for me, fed me, given me medication, done the laundry, shopping, cleaning, AND corraled the three teen boys, too!! I tell ya, there's not a better man...

What? Two posts in one day?

Well, I got tagged by Colleen and have to play along with her and her game.

Here's the rules:

1. Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4.Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

OK, you want weird?
  1. When I was two I used to wash my hair and shoes & socks in the toilet! Thankfully, I have outgrown that one! Really, I have!
  2. I have bitten my nails since I have had teeth. I just can't stop!
  3. I like tomato sauce but hate tomatoes.
  4. I could eat chicken every day of my life.
  5. My first two children's middle names are Michael and Jordan...yes they are named for Michael Jordan of Chicago Bulls basketball fame!! LOL!
  6. My parents are still married after 53 years!! I am very proud of that.
  7. I really want to use my karate skills to beat someone up...really!

OK, I don't know if that was really that weird...except for number 1!!!

I am tagging:

Beverley

Darlene

Dianna

Have a great week! :D

Ever heard of Cluster Headaches?

Not a migraine...different symptoms. I'd heard about Cluster headaches, but never really understood them until I recently got one! It is one of the most painful things.

I have had headaches when I was in middle school from straining my eyes and needed glasses. I have had headaches now and then when we were expecting rain. But to have a unilateral headache right behind your eyeball, piercing into your ear and down your face and neck...UGH! You don't want to know!

I ended up going to the ER last Sunday because I knew something was not right and my head felt like it was exploding. Once they figured out that it was a Cluster Headache they gave me oxygen which usually will help break the pain cycle. When that was not working, I got an I.V. drug(can't remember the name) and finally took off a great deal of the edge.

Well, I still have the headache, but to a lesser degree. I researched a bit on the net and have come to realize that there is no cure and no understandable reason for them to happen. They are not hereditary. They usually effect men in their 20's-40's(that's not me!) and women over 50(not me yet!!). Cluster headaches usually occur inthe night..while you're sleeping...I have found this out first-hand. They can stay with you for a long time and you can go into remission of sorts...but it will come back. Oh, woe is me!!

Tomorrow I have an appointment with my general doc...a wonderful lady who is an osteopath. And hopefully she has some good news in the form of drugs for me!!! I'll let ya know!

So if anyone has any kind words or advice for me...please leave me a comment!! TIA!

Photos from the weekend!

Yes, I know it's been a while...
I just returned from vending at the Scrapper's Dream Vacation that was held at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. I was joined by two of my favorite people and I Remember When Instructors, Beth Kingston and Suzanne Mulet. Yes, it was during the whole hurricane/tropical storm Fay thing, but we didn't care. It pretty much spared the Orlando area and went around us...go figure!

Words cannot truly express the depth of what happens at an SDV event. I always come back after vending at an SDV event(this was my third) with a new love for women as we share our hearts and souls during the weekend. It's a scrapping weekend...yes, but it's so much more.

So on to the photos!

Here's most of our 10'x20' booth. Beth and I each have quite an extensive inventory!

Our Xyron adhesive display. It was nearly empty after the event was over. We love us some Xyron!

Here's the great Suzanne Mulet manning the Make & Take table. We had a new project each day and everyone loved what they got to make.

Beth is at the cash register and Suzanne is in the background in black. They both have really cool hair!

Looking out into the sea of scrappers. This only shows maybe half of the room. The vendors line the walls. It is amazing how much stuff these women bring!! The poor bellmen!

So if SDV ever comes your way, you've gotta get your girlfriends and head on over for a scrappin' good time!

:D

My 3 Sons

Here they are! My 3 sons! Evan, who starts his second year in community college, is on the left, Nick, a senior in HS, is on the right, and Garrett, freshman in HS, in the middle. Both Evan (6')and Nick(6'2") are taller than me and their dad. Garrett is in his growth spurt now and is almost as tall as me(5'10"). I haven't been 'short' since the 6th grade!! In this photo they are all on their way to church...together!! That's why I HAD to take a photo.

Aren't they just the cutest???!!!!

I am so excited! But keep it hush, hush!

I have some exclusive info, but you can't tell anyone...it's not been announced yet!

At My Creative Classroom we are beginning to bring in new teachers to the pack of existing ones. They have been going though a 6-week training to learn how to teach online classes. Teaching online classes is WAAAYYY different than teaching face-to-face classes. So much more to consider and much more prep work.

The New Instructor's class is the same type of class that I went through to become an instructor there last year, only we were the guinea pigs, as we were the first teachers through the course. OMG! It was so hard! I kept telling myself, "Don't quit, it will all be good once you get through"! Everything techie I know I learned at MCC!!! Really! And now I almost feel like a pro! LOL!

At My Creative Classroom we will be having our Fall Kick-Off event the week of September 8th. ('Yours Truly' is in charge of it!!) We will be introducing the new instructors, having a New Instructors chat, and having a few games and PRIZES(!).Mark your calendar so you will be there.

And if you haven't already done so, head on over to the MCC website and sign up for the FREE newsletter so you know when all the new courses and events will be posted. There's lots coming up at MCC!!! It's gonna be a good year! :D

30 year High School Reunion!!!???

Yes, it's true. I really am that old. :-(

My 30 year high school reunion was this past Saturday. I graduated in 1978 from Forest High School in Ocala, FL...1-1/2 hours north of Orlando. I hadn't planned to go to the reunion because I wasn't sure how long we'd be on our beach vacation(see last post).

I got an email on Friday morning from my best guy friend in high school, Scott. He went through hoops to find me!! He wanted me to come that night(Friday) to meet a bunch of our friends at a restaraunt. He is the only person that could have gotten me to go...and go I did.

We had a blast! Many of these people I literally hadn't seen since graduation 30 years ago. We talked about our kids and what we'd been up to...did we remember the fun times in "Groucho's" Sociology class(Of course!!! We all got great laughs out of that one!). OMG! Total fun. I saw some grey hair, reading glasses, a few wrinkles...but most of my friends looked just like they did in HS!!

I was bummed because I did have to drive home and everyone else went to Scott's house till past 1am. I will say that all the guys that brought their wives married"up"...these ladies were gorgeous!!! You done good, guys!

Good times! Good memories....now where's that year book???

Back from the beach!

We spent a few days at Disney's Vero Beach Resort like we do every July. Vero is south of Cape Canaveral on the east coast of Florida. I will thrill you with a few photos of our trip!

Here's most of our gang...

The view from our deck...

View of the deck from the beach... We played alot of games....Rummicube is my fave! Vero is one of the nesting grounds for Loggerhead Turtles. They go to great lengths to protect them! Loads of shells and rocks! One of my niece's on the boogie board!

Now to scrapbook all the pictures!!! :D

Another post? Yep...still celebrating!

Yep, we are still celebrating my friend, Beverley Todd's 40th birthday. Geesh, does this girl love attention or what??!! LOL!

Today we are going to play Birthday Tag ... & here are the rules:
  1. Post your answers to the questions below on your blog (my answers are in red!)
  2. Add a link to Beverley's post in your blog & make sure that the people you tag also know that they must link to Beverley's post to be in the draw.
  3. Tag at least 5 other people (post a comment on their blogs to let them know!)
  4. Post a comment on Beverley's post to be entered into the birthday tag draw - be sure to let the people you tag know to comment there, too. Beverley will have a birthday related prize & an additional prize for every 40 comments on her blog post... so spread the word to increase your chances of winning!
If you are reading this ... consider yourself tagged! LOL!!

QUESTIONS:

What age was your best birthday (so far) & why? My best birthdays were when I was still growing up on my parent's home. My mom would always make our favorite dinner, bake our favorite cake and we were allowed to have soda(only on birthdays!)

What was the worst? Haven't had a worst that I can think of...

What is the best present you have ever received? I don't remember...sorry, I am getting old!

What was the weirdest? Again, can't remember...gee, I am real fun, huh?

Where would you most like to spend your birthday? A great birthday would be a trip to a spa with girlfriends, out to dinner with family and some mushy cards form my hubby and kids...oh yeah, and the kids would not fight!! Then again, a birthday cruise sounds good, too! LOL!

What is your zodiac sign? Pisces: Positive traits: imaginative and sensitive, compassionate and kind, selfless and unworldly, intuitive and sympathetic...On the dark side....escapist and idealistic, secretive and vague, weak-willed and easily led. (OK...pretty much true on all accounts!!!)

Chinese Year? I was born in the year of the RAT!! Rats are creative, problem solvers, hyperactive workers and very social. (I am not very social!!) They have charm and outgoing personality (nope...I am an introvert)but under the surface there is a shrewd and luck seeking character, sometimes aggressive. (I would never call myself aggressive!) They are very curious and want to learn about everything.(OK, I'll give you that one!) Their search and quick decisions often lead to complications, both in business and love.(True) They take big risks and seldom have the one and same partner, they are often viewed as unserious.(False) Risk takers that love game and hazard in all its forms. (NOT!)Rats are often charming and attract admirers.(Oh, so true, LOL!!) They have an active personality and can easily get a lot of friends. Party and big events are their melody, preferably of the more exclusive sort. (NOT!)Rats are smart and succeed well in what ever they get involved in. (YEP!)They adapt to the external environment and see possibilities where others don’t. (YEP!)On the surface the Rat seems calm and under control, but their sometimes uncertain and aggressive character can cause big problems. (Right-o!)

So on you go to tag a few friends...get on over to Beverley's blog at craftymoments.blogspot.com to get in on the goodies! Tell her I sent ya!

OK, I need to put up some art here...

Yes, I have really been crafting...just not ready to post anything yet. I am working on a new online class for My Creative Classroom...a Mixed Media class.

In this class, which will begin in September, you will be given tons of techniques to try and create some cool panels...then more techniques on what to do with them.

The beauty of Mixed Media is that it can include ANYTHING! love it! So here's a few teaser photos of stuff I have been working on. No, I won't post the whole project photos....you need to sign up for the class!!

Registration will begin early September if not earlier...so check the MCC website or email me for info. :D

Got a funny email!

This is for all you non-sissy types!

None of that Sissy Crap
Are you tired of those sissy 'friendship' poems that always sound good,
but never actually come close to reality?
Well, here is a series of promises that actually speak of true friendship.
You will see no cutesy little smiley faces on this card-
Just the stone cold truth of our great friendship.
1. When you are sad --I will jump on the person who made you sad like a spider monkey jacked up on Mountain Dew!!!
2. When you are blue -- I will try to dislodge whatever is choking you.
3. When you smile -- I will know you are plotting something that I must be involved in.
4. When you're scared -- we will high tail it out of here.
5. When you are worried -- I will tell you horrible stories about how much worse it could be until you quit whining, ya big baby!!!!
6. When you are confused -- I will use "little" words.
7. When you are sick --Stay away from me until you are well again. I don't want whatever you have.
8. When you fall -- I'll pick you up and dust you off.
9. This is my oath...I pledge it to the end. 'Why?' you may ask -- because you are my FRIEND!
Friendship is like peeing your pants,
everyone can see it,
but only you can feel the true warmth.
Send this to 10 of your closest friends,
Then get depressed because you can only think
of 4.
Thanks, Dixie, my friend!!! :D
Hey don't forget to get in on my giveaway...see yesterday's post. But you only have until Friday July 11 at 12 noon EST...and then I'm picking a winner!

Want to take an online class?

Most of you know that I am a Creative Arts Instructor with My Creative Classroom a new online crafting site. I know many of you still have questions about just what you do in an online class.

My Creative Classroom is a virtual learning center. In the classroom you have a news forum, help forum, a forum to chit chat away with other students, and a student galery where you can upload photos of the projects you are working on for the class. The class materials are presented in PDF format, slide presentation or video. Sometimes there are virtual field trips, online chats, and games and fun!

In some classes you learn techniques and in others you will create a project, either from a kit or your own supplies. You will have access to the classroom for a certain time period to complete the class and ask the instructor questions. It really is a great thing. You can go into the classroom 24/7, in your pajamas, and with a bad hair day!! What could be sweeter?

Here are some of my upcoming classes:
Enjoy the Journey/Travel Workshop

Battle Hymn of the Republic

OK, you've got to listen to this, I got an email today and it was a multi-forwarded message but the end result is this recording of the US Army Band and Chorus welcoming Pope Benedict XVI at the White House Rose Garden ceremony on 15 April. There are also high school kids. At the conclusion listen to the high notes on the trumpet . . . Played by a high school kid!

One of the fathers recorded it, added some graphic enhancements to the recording, and posted it on the web. The song, of course, is the 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic.' Be prepared . . . It will definitely send a few shivers up your spine. I can never get through listening to or singing this song without tears.

God Bless America! http://www.greatdanepromilitary.com/Battle%20Hymn/index.htm

Photos from my trip...

Last week I was flying the friendly skies from Orlando to Chantilly, Virginia. I was working for Scrap-Mart at the Great American Scrapbook Convention. It was a great show, but I have no pictures of the booth or of me and my crew. :-(
But after the show we had some time to kill before our flights out of Baltimore, so we ventured to Washington, D.C. and Georgetown University. What a cool town! Check out these pictures.

The campus can be seen in the distance across the bridge.

The Univeristy Seal. This looks so cool with all the dimensional detail!!Don't ask me what a Hoya has to do with the Bulldog mascot...I don't know! But I love this picture of the cascading flags! What gorgeous old buildings on campus! There's a clock tower, too, that chimes throughout the day. The town has such character...cute little shops and restaraunts. The brownstones have got to cost a fortune!! We were there on a Sunday and apparently that's the only day you can park on the street. So during the week where does everyone park??? Yep, that sign below says Pennsylvania Avenue. We didn't have enough time to stop in and say hi to George W. But I did see the White House from a distance. What a gorgeous view! A personal note about this whole journey into D.C., is that I grew up about 5 miles from here in Hyattsville, Maryland. My dad was a firefighter in D.C. in the late 50's and early 60's. As we were driving through the city I decided to give him a call to see if he could guess where I was...yeah right! He told me that his fire station was right outside of Georgetown! Oh how I wish I would have called him earlier and gotten a photo of his station!! He got a chuckle, though, as I told him the streets we were passing. He loved living there and working there. Great memories. Now to scrapbook these really cool photos!! :-)

I love patterned paper!

I don't know about you, but I love patterned paper. And recently, the color black has to show up in everything I do. Don't ask me why...there is no logical answer.

This past Saturday I had my monthly crop in my home and actually got to scrapbook some photos...I made two double page layouts and one single! I am so excited bacause it seems the more your "job" is in the scrapbooking field, the less you actually scrapbook for yourself! KWIM??

OK, on to the patterned paper. I absolutely love Scenic Route! This paper in the photo below is Cape Town Signal Hill Floral from the Cape Town Collection. It totally caught my eye and I had to make one of my layouts with it. Thing is, there's only one sheet to a pack and it is so busy...what to do???
Well, I decided to hand cut portions of the flowers and use that as a sort of border. That way I got to use the paper that I love, but it didn't "rule" the show. I really like how it turned out. The photos are of my neice's high school graduation last year. Her colors were red and white, and totally worked with the Cape Town paper.
Hey, do you see that cool black mesh-looking stuff peeking out from behind the main photo? It's called Punchinella...it is fun plastic ribbon that is left over after sequins are punched out, often called "sequin waste." Use it on altered book pages, or as a stencil for creating backgrounds or for ribbons on potted plants. It is a bit over 3" wide and comes on 50-yard spools. You can get it at SkyBluePink...they have some of the coolest things!!

Watch out on the road!!!

If you live anywhere near Central Florida, beware!! A new driver is on the roadways with you. Yep, my DS#2 just got his drivers license after much procrastinating.

I tell you, when I was old enough to drive, I was first in line to get my license. This dude turned 17 in December!! Well, he had to get it because we refuse to drive him and his brother the 8/10ths of a mile to school!!!

All kidding aside, we are very proud of him and he drives pretty well. He has inherited the "ghetto truck" from his older brother(an old Ford F-150). Hey, at least it's wheels, right? In my day we didn't care what it looked like, at least we had a vehicle...ok, maybe not...we really did care!!! I had no choice but to drive my mom's station wagon with wood sides until I could actually afford an old beat-up Datsun 210 station wagon!!! those were the days!!

How green are you?

I found this blog, blogthings, with a neat little quiz to help you see how green your life is right now.

I took it and am a 36%, which totally surprizes me...I didn't think I an very green at all, although I do recycle everything I can.

Take the quiz and see where you are.

Canines and Cancer

We noticed a weird bump on Pepper's front leg. At first I thought it might be an embedded tick, but it didn't look like that, really. My DH took her in to the vet and they said it was a mast cell tumor. They had to do a needle aspiration and send it off to the pathologist. I was so sad and couldn't think about the possibility of not having her around anymore.

Well, the vet called today and let us know that it WAS NOT a mast cell tumor, that it is a benign thing that in younger dogs will usually resolve itself on its own. Since she's 8 years old, we are getting that sucker off on Monday.

Before I was a "dog person" I couldn't understand how people got all lovey-dovey over their pets! But now I can't even think of living without her! I am a totally hooked dog-lover! She's my baby!

Life's too short to use ugly paper!

There is such a plethora of great looking patterned paper that it is a shame to use anything but the good stuff. I have junk here that I am determined to pitch...it's really bad...nothing you'd want...really! It is going into the garbags bin...unless,... I bet I can make some cool paper beads with them...now, you're talking! Seems like I really can't get rid of stuff...I need a 12-step program!!! I admit it...I am a paper junkie...isnt' that the first step to recovery? Do I really want to recover??

Well, here is a look at the class kit for my "Our Family" 12" x 6" Handmade Album class I am teaching at My Creative Classroom beginning on June 10th. You don't need to purchase the kit to register for the class. I just love making up kits and there are some people that LOVE kits!!! So I do what I can for others...Aren't these the greatest colors? So Summery and even a bit of Fall-looking. CLICK HERE for more info and to sign up! Hope to "see" you there!

I am going to be blogging for Scrapping-4-Inclusion

Yep, that's right...every Wednesday I will be a guest blogger on the Scrapping-4-Inclusion blog. Most every day there will be guest bloggers from the scrapbooking community! So make sure you put us in your favorites and go check it out! You may see layouts, tips techniques...who knows??!!

The mission of Scrapping 4 Inclusion is to combine one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America with the need for creating awareness and raising funds onbehalf of children with disabilities and their advocates at The Bubel/Aiken Foundation (TBAF). This is an awareness and fundraising campaign where Volunteer Organizers across the USA will plan a full day Scrapbooking Crop in their own community. A Scrapping 4 Inclusion event, through creating awareness and raising funds, will help to create new and meaningful memories in the lives of children with and without special needs across North America.

Anyone can help plan an event in their community...click here to find out the details!!

A blessing!

My oldest son was baptized last night. He has been studying the bible for a while and was finally ready to give his life to God. We are so proud of his decision. It is such a great thing for my other sons to see...a great role model for them.

One of the many cool things he said last night was that he thanked me for the many years I had brought him and his brothers to church...he said he wouldn't be here making this decision without it. (Background: I was baptized seven years before my husband. So for seven years it was me and the kids going to church, and midweek and any devotionals. It was VERY hard. It is totally two different perspectives of life when you and your spouse don't believe the same way.)

But what a blessing it is to see your son follow in the ways you prayed about for so long. I have even been through a very dry spell spiritually for a long time, but this totally proves that God is working everything out to His own plan!

Here's our gang. Mother-in-law- Nancy, Garrett - 14 years, Evan -19, Howard, me, and Nick - 17 years.

Been organizing my "Hooker" bag...

...OK, I'll explain! I belong to a cool creative site called Cr8 Everyday Crafts...There was a challenge to see who could invite the most PEEPS to come and join....well, I won! And this is my prize. No, it's not REALLY a hooker bag..that would be just...wrong! LOL! But it is made by ScrapWorks and it IS magnificent!! (But couldn't you see Julia Roberts with this bag in "Pretty Woman"??...it sure would fit a wig and thigh-high boots!!! LOL!!)

Since receiving my "Hooker" bag, I hadn't gotten my things in it. After years of using a HUGE purse, I dwindled down to the smallest purse on earth and now I am going back to a HUGE beast again with thie "Hooker" bag! Well, I am finished and am so happy about it!I can't show you a picture of me with the bag because I look totally disgusting! The advantage of working from home!!! LOL!

More photos to come! Blogger won't let me add more. :(

I just posted another new class!

Join me for this 2-week class at My Creative Classroom where you will learn how to make a handmade 12” x 6” album out of cardboard, card stock, paper, and embellishments! The theme of the optional class kit is "OUR FAMILY", but when you use your own supplies, your theme can be anything you want and can be re-created in a flash for many occasions.

Do you want to learn some techniques? Besides learning to create your own handmade album, you will learn how to machine sew on paper, use up your scraps, make the most of your embellishments, and more.

The class kit includes great colors for summer or Thanksgiving and can even be a great Christmas gift…it’s not too early to prepare!!

Class starts June 10th. CLICK HERE to find out more and to sign up!
