I SPY with my little eye

I love how many layouts I have been able to get done lately!! I really don't like loud or primary colors...I am more a muted kind of gal. But I kept on with the process and like the outcome. This is DS#3 in his long hair phase earlier this year.

I am so excited for the New Year!!

My husband and #3 son return today after a short skiing trip to NC. They said it rained most of the time there!!! UGH! But they will be home soon and I can't wait.

I also can't wait for 8pm...some gals from I Remember When are having an online crop for 24 hours. There will be scrapbooking challenges, BINGO and I think I have already won an early bird contest. The question was how many adhesives do you have in your stash. Well, I count 47. If you include the 19 refills for my ATG gun, then it is well over 60! What can I say? I love me some adhesive!!!

Also, I will be making an art journal for 2008...just gotta wait for hubby to show me how to use his coil binding machine so I can bind it all together. I bet I could figure it out, but I'd hate to mess it up and get into trouble!!!

I will post some of the art challenges from the online crop!!

Happy 2008!!!

Do you believe in Fairies?

My fairy name is:

Your fairy is called Feather Haildancer
She is a protector of the lonely.
She lives in high places where the clouds meet the earth.
She is only seen when the bees swarm and the crickets chirrup.
She wears pale blue like the sky. She has cheery turquoise wings like a butterfly.

Holiday Greetings

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas or a Joyous Hanukkah!

On Christmas day we travelled 1-1/2 hours north of Orlando to Ocala where my parents' house is. Every year we play the funnest game...the "Chinese gift exchange". I am not sure if it's an "official" game, but you buy a bunch of $1 store (or fairly cheap items) that are 'useful' and wrap them up. We all sit in a circle and pick a number. Number one goes first, etc. You open up a wrapped gift. The next person can open another gift or take the opened one if he/she likes it better, then the one who's present got "stolen" picks another gift. Some gifts were silly putty, gum, candy, the re-gifted christmas candle that no one wants(!), overliners, can of soup, a thesaurus, pen, hot cocoa, and the all-time winner...a $10 Walmart gift card. We usually don't get such fancy schmancy stuff for this game! (Some years we have a whoopie cushion, which is always a hit, or BEANO...but let's not go there!!) Below see a few of my winnings. My sister looked at me real funny when I told her I was gonna make art by cutting up my thesaurus...oh well!!

Below is a picture of our gang. Mom and Dad are in the center and all around are my brothers and sisters and all our kids. My oldest sister, her husband and two daughters live in (cold!) Michigan and couldn't make it down this year. I am in the front at the far left.
Now onto New Years! I am very excited about New Years' this year. To start fresh!! I want to hand make an art journal with hand stamped dates for each day of the year...there was one fantastic one I saw in Somerset Studio...I will have to go scrounge to find who made it and maybe get a picture. It was so cool. There were blank pages to make art on and then on other pages she had hand stamped the one page was one week's worth of journal on . Very Cool!!! I know I am not explaining this very well...I will look for the issue and get back to you.

Here's the most recent layout I just finished yesterday. This is one of my neices' on her graduation this past May. The layout is a scraplift from Wendy Chang's graduation layout on the Prima blog. You've gotta check out that is amazing!!! Loads of eye candy for creating!!!

Until next time!! :D

The joys of living in Florida!!

The rest of the U.S. may be drowning in cold weather and snow, but today the sky is clear and the sun is bright. I know that we Floridians sometimes say we would like to "see" snow, but I think most of us are very grateful to NOT live in it. I was just outside swinging on my kid's playset(yes, they are all teens but it is a BIG playset and it stays put!). It feels so great to be outside in the sun. I get such a refreshing feeling with the sun on my face. I don't think I could live without seeing the sunshine as much as we have it here. What a blessing!

I think I am done Christmas shopping. And I have wrapped all the gifts, too. Tomorrow I will begin baking cookies and making Chex's gotta be from just tastes better! :D

I am an art-making fiend!!

After searching online for Altered Books, I found a similar piece of art using slide mounts. I love how this turned out. Each "canvas" is so can really be a challenge and other times it's easy as pie! I have made these nine slides with various papers and even Christmas wrapping paper. The black corrugated cardboard was inked and heat-embossed with gold, mounted on torn, inked and black embossed paper and all of that mounted on foam core. I covered both sides of the foam core with chipboard and painted it red. There's some black cording finishing off the edges. It looks super-fantastic!!! What therapy. My hubby says to sell it...but I am not sure...I like it too much!

In the Christmas Spirit!!!

Had a long conversation with my mom yesterday about the food we will have on Christmas day at my parent's house. My BIL Leo always makes loads of Ziti(yes, he's Italian!!), there is salad and bread and other eats and always way too many Christmas cookies...but somehow they always get eaten!! :D You can always diet in January!!!

I went to the grocery store to get the ingredients for my cookies. Seems like I end up making and icing the cookies by myself now that my boys are older...too cool for Christmas cookies??? I think not! I don't mind. I will have Bing Crosby, Glen Campbell and the Carpenters singing my favorite Christmas tunes as I sift and stir. My favorite Christmas carol is Glen Campbell singing "I'll be home for Christmas". Aaaaahhh...there's nothin' better.

Here's my finished (I think!) project with the "vintage" postcard. I added some glitter and a silky ribbon to hang it from and large old-looking silver beads dangling from the bottom.

Son #2 turns 17 on the 17th. He gets to choose is birthday dinner and he chooses lobster!!! Works for long as I don't have to cook! :D

Some great changes coming at My Creative Classroom!

If you haven't signed up for the free newsletter at, it's time to head on over. Just for signing up, you get a free week of classes. We are taking the rest of December off...well, we aren't off, we are preparing new classes for the Spring semester...which opens February 4th!!! Get ready for some amazing classes. And it's not just paper arts, either. There are some amazing Creative Artists who are teaching with me there. Go check it out.

Not familiar with online classes? On the main MCC website you can see a tutorial with all the info you need. If you have any other questions, feel free to post them here in my comments section. Basically an online class is a class you can take anytime within the begin and end dates of the class. The instructor is a part of your entire experience. She will be online most every day to help you, encourage you, etc...if you take my classes, I am ALWAYS on my computer!!! There is downloadable info, step-by-step directions with slide and audio to guide you along the entire way. There is a gallery to upload your creations and comment on the other students' forums, tidbits and info, etc. You don't have to actively participate, but you wil get a whole lot more out of it if you do. And all from the comfort of your home...and even in your jammies, if you want!!!

If you want a look at my classroom, take a peek here. Scroll down and look in the center section...I have a free class area where you can look around the classroom. To enter, you will need to create a log in name and password, but that's easy. The whole site will get a re-vamping soon, so watch out for some exciting and colorful changes!! :)

The start of something good!!

Last night my #3 son needed to use my laptop for homework, so I got to "get my art on" and begin creating...not sure what it will be yet, but I have a few things to add to this. Some lace, maybe a little glitter?? Who knows...stay tuned to see what becomes of her.
Off to karate class now!! (insert "karate chop" emoticon here)

Sharing my heart

(I just sent this out to everyone on my crop list.)

I just had to share what’s on my mind right now. OK, yeah, scrapbooking always is on my mind, but more than that.

I had my monthly crop in my home yesterday. I had the house decorated for Christmas and put out loads of goodies to eat and great things to drink. I had friends who brought their pictures to scrap, but there was more than that yesterday. There was something special that has been coming and has been exposing itself for a while now. But yesterday it blew the doors off! We all know that scrapbooking is about more than just gluing pictures to paper. It’s about the people, the stories, and the women you share it with. And I want to share that with you. Any and all of you who haven’t come to a crop or who haven’t been here in a while. I want you to experience what I have. I have found a connection…a connection between women.

I think every woman has a desire to create, whether with paper or paint or words or dance…to let out something deep inside them that make them feel free. We are afraid of letting it out, but we HAVE to let it out. We have to find the pieces inside us that make us feel free…that make us feel happy and joyful and just “fine and dandy” with life.

Yesterday there was a constant buzz of chatter between the women. Mother and daughter, old friends, and new friends. There was a heart connection that I so desperately need and want in my life. And I really think that you do, too. OK, I know it’s scary to come to someone’s house that you don’t know. Go look at my picture on my website ( You have probably seen me at Publix or Wal-Mart, or at the volleyball game or on the road. But I am here, in your neighborhood and I have things I want to share with you and I know you have things you need to share with me. I am a great listener…so are the other gals who come to my crop. We are of all ages and faiths and races. Some are grandmothers, even thought you’d never guess it by looking at them!! (Wink, wink) Some have young kids, some older kids, some are married and some are single. But we are all women. We all have stories…we all have pain and joy to share and we want to belong and to be free and to create. I just want you to come to be a part of this amazing thing. Come be a part of something great and refreshing.

I have attached the Crop Schedule for 2008. Pop it in your calendar and carve out the time for YOU. You really do deserve it. You have so much going on in your life that one afternoon a month really can be considered “your time”. Don’t feel guilty about it. It will recharge you so you can be the woman that everyone needs you to be. If you don’t recharge your batteries, you won’t work.

I can’t wait to see you in January. Please feel free to call me or email me with any questions.

Have a safe and Joyous Holiday!!

Pepsi Jazz...Caramel Cream!!

Have you tried this? It is amazing! I am one who doesn't really drink anything but water, but I have a crop at my house tomorrow. (I feed my scrappers well!!) Just saw this in the grocery store and thought that it sounded interesting. I just had to sneak some early to try it out and OMG!!! Good thing it's diet!!

Want a great Holiday recipe?

I found this recipe in a magazine like Woman's Day or Family Circle back in 1982. I have made this every year since then for Thanksgiving. It makes THE BEST pumpkin bread in the WORLD!!

Orangey Pumpkin Bread

2/3 cup shortening
2-2/3 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 lb. canned pumpkin
2/3-cup water
3-1/3 cup flour
2 tsp baking soda
1-1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
½ tsp baking powder
1 whole orange
2/3 cup chopped nuts
2/3 cup chopped raisins

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add eggs, pumpkin and water. Sift together next six ingredients and add to pumpkin mixture. Remove seeds from orange. Grind orange and peel in blender; add to pumpkin mixture. Stir in nuts and raisins. Pour into two well-greased loaf pans or seven mini loaf pans. Bake 350 F for 1 hour.

More Christmas Creating!!

Well, I am sort of shifting gears. Off my blue Holidays Album and onto this ABC Christmas Album. You only get to see the first page...and, of course, it's not even finished either...will have to add some bling and ribbons and such. It is made with Cosmo Cricket "Be Good" paper crafting kit, Bazzill cardsdtock (of course!), American Crafts felt flowers, CC "Just your Holiday Type" cardstock stickers. Now, I am not usually one for stickers, but these are cute!!! They are totally "made" for an ABC book!! :)
This album will be totally hand made. The pages are 12" x 6" and I will make the covers from loads of that in the garage!!! Binding with book rings. It has little pieces that lift up, smaller pages inserted here and coolness. I will probably sell this one, too. Any takers??

Yummo! Thanksgiving was very delicious. As always we head on "up the road" to Ocala(a mere 1-1/2 hour drive) where my parents live. Mom always cooks the turkey and most of the other goodies. We(my 5 brothers and sisters...minus one) bring the rest of the meal and pies. I always make my "famous" pumpkin bread, but mom and dad never put it out. They always hide it so they can have it with coffee during the rest of the week. I don't blame them. It is the best pumpkin bread in the world!!! I got it from a magazine around 1982 or so. It has loads of spices, a whole orange including the rind and walnuts and raisins. If I get a chance, I will post it.

Oh yeah, those little pilgrim squirrels are salt and papper shakers and sit on the Thanksgiving table every year. They are totally a tradition!!! :D

Off to a working weekend!

Well, I am just about to leave for a weekend of working at the Orlando Memories Expo. Since it's only a hop, skip, and a jump from where I live, I don't need to fly to my destination. I have travelled with Advantus, Corp. for the last two years working the Scrapbook shows around the country. We have such a blast, but it is SUPER hard work!! Lots of lifting and setting up gridwall, etc., etc. Anyway, we have fun. Tomorrow we will be setting up literally all day at the Convention Center and then the show is Friday and Saturday.

And don't forget to sign up for my fall class at I am teaching a scrapbook calendar class....and...didn't I tell you? I love to give out free gifts. Who knows when I will surprize someone and send out something special??? Run, don't walk to go sign up!!!

Creative Update

So here's the updated Holidays Album cover that I told you I'd add...The glittered snowflakes are added on this picture. But now that I look at it again, I think I will be adding some clear bling to the masked snowflake centers!! Never satisfied, huh? Or is it an artists prerogative to change her mind?

Did a cute wall hanging(that I am not showing you!!!!) and these other projects so far. The two-page spread is of my neice...who is now about 21 years old now. It's beginning to look alot like...

OK, I know it's only Halloween, but I was updating some of my huge amounts of inventory into my website and came across this 9" x 9" baby blue album. I keep thinking that it is for a baby, but look now!!! It is a Winter Holiday Album. I only have the cover finished(actually waiting for two glittered snowflakes to dry), but I will be ading pages. Who knows...maybe it will go on eBay or etsy. I am sooo in the mood to create holiday stuff!!! Gotta love that Heidi Swapp snowflake mask. A mask adds so much to a page or album cover! Love it! I'll change out the pix when I get those glittered snowflakes on. :D

Got another class idea!

I am in the process of making another project for a class this Spring for My Creative know, the new online crafting site?? My project is using chipboard "on the wall" sort of thing. Can't spill the beans too much, but the picture shows a little bit of a teaser. Yes, it looks girly, but there will be a few class choices, so you don't HAVE to do the girl project...(zipping my mouth shut, now!!)
Sign up for the free newsletter at and get a free week of online classes. Classes "officially" start in January, but there will be a few classes offered before Christmas. You can get a jump on the holiday season and gift giving!! Sign up for the newsletter and keep an eye open for some amazing classes coming your way!!
My class in November will be one you can use all year long...hmmm what could it be? You'll have to check out the website to see the details. (wink, wink!)

I've been tagged

I have been tagged by Pam : and here's the rules when I tag out, here I come!!!
1) You link to your 'tagger' & post the rules:
2) Share 7 facts about yourself - random/weird (now that should be easy!!!)
3)Tag 7 people & link to them
4) Leave comments on their blogs, so they know they've been tagged.

7 facts about me:

1) I want to learn how to play the violin...I LOVE its sound!

2)I love to smell my kids' necks. (I have three teen boys!!) Now, even I think that's weird....but I love their smell, except when they have recently been working out...they each have their own smell and it makes me want to snuggle them...they aren't babies anymore, I know...and they won't let me snuggle them!!! "MOM, get out of here!!!", is all I hear.

3)I hate being scared...hate scary movies!! Fear is one emotion that I cannot stand.

4) I really want to beat someone up...OK, let me explain...I have a 3rd Degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo and I really want to see if I can put these last eight years of training to the test. If I am ever in the situation I will probably cry and run like a girl, but I hope that I will remember my skills and kick bootie! (insert really cool karate emoticon here)

5) I could eat chicken salad sandwiches every day. I love it!

6) I usually only drink water...that's it. OK, that and my soy fruit shake in the morning.

7)I love CSI...I will watch re-runs over and over again. And don't try to talk to me on a Thursday night at 9pm. But I ONLY like's gotta be Grissom or nothing!!

Well, that's me in a nutshell... :D

I am tagging Lori, Cindi, Julie, Beth, Nikki, NormaAnn, and Julie B.

Check out my Slide Show!

I subscribe to just about every scrapbooking and artsy magazine known to man...OK, not really, but I bet I subscribe to more than you do!!! ;-) Anyway, I have this stash of stuff I really like. So, I tear it out(NOT out of an idea book or a special edition!!) and I have all these different piles. I decided to (finally) put it all in the binder I started about a year ago(!) and organize it. What a concept! I feel like I am spinning my wheels today anyway, so organizing it is!!

Oh, I am sooo not techie. I went to a site to create and upload a slideshow of many of my compupter lagged so much I had to restart and lost what had taken me about 2 hours to do(no lie). When I get it all figured out, I will hopefully have a really cool slideshow to post of my work.

Saturday, September 22, 2007

I love it when... can really turn someone onto something. I just finished my monthly crop today...we meet from 10am-5pm at my house once a month. One of my guests actually scrapped her first page. Yes, I got a picture of it, but I cannot post it because I didn't ask her and she doesn't like to get her picture taken, like the rest of us females!!! But I was so happy for her. She brought her (adult) daughter, too, who cranked out some pages!!! Me? I only got one page done. How did that happen? Who knows? Too much talking? Too much over-thinking my pages? ...probably!! (wink, wink) But I did have fun. I love my crop days! :D

Remember, this is an online classroom with loads of talented crafters. You will be amazed at the projects ready to roll.

I have quite a few really cool projects coming your get on the email list and get ready to create like you've never done so before.

Here's a taste of something I have created in a baby theme(photos above) ..we will be doing things just a bit differently, but be assured it is something you will not want to miss out on!!

Sad day for my friend

I really don't want to be a downer, but the daughter of one of my best friends is going through a rough time. One of her childhood friends has passed away(she was not even 19 years old) and she will be traveling to the funeral this weekend. She has never flown before. She probably has never been this far away from home before. She has had some tragedies to live through, but this hits so close to her heart. She doesn't want to go, but she wants to be there. There is such an ache in my heart for her and her mom(my friend). It is one of those times that you just have to give it all up to God. He has to be there for her...there's nothing else to hang on to. I know it is in these times, when there's nothing else that you can do, when God shows up and carries you through. It's like that poem that I love called "Footprints in the Sand".
**Footprints in the Sand**
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and
he questioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why
when I needed you most you would leave me.
"The LORD replied:
"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

I am an official blogger!!!

Wow! Here I am with my own blog. I look forward to adding my thoughts, ramblings and pictures.

Gotta run. According to my three teen boys, "there's no food in the house". Ever heard that before? Wouldn't want to be accused of contributing tot he malnourishment(is that a word?) of my kids!!!
